WELLINGTON Rugby Club’s lst XV have been declared champions of Western Counties West by the RFU.

Wellington were lying in the runner’s-up spot when the season was brought to a halt in March but the table has been revised putting them top.

They finished with 107.28 points, with St Austell on 106.36, and both teams will be playing in South West One (W) next winter.

It ends a splendid season for Wellington who beat Swindon 17-14 away in March to win the RFU Intermediate Cup Divisional final. “Graham Dawe [head coach} is chuffed to bits,” said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland. “It is testament to the hard work put in by the players.

“They have been together for three or four seasons, having come up through the youth set up. They have grown up together and they get on with each other splendidly. They’re a great budge of boys.

“We also want to thank all those supporters who make the long trips to watch us play. The players really appreciate it.

“As far as we know we are not losing anyone next season. And there are no retirements!

“Obviously, it is going to be much tougher next season but the boys are improving all the time. They’re raring to go.”

n Neighbours Taunton Titans will be playing National League One rugby next season after finishing top of National Two South.
