WELLINGTON have the chance to put some serious pressure on leaders Penryn when they play away to struggling Torrington in the Cornwall and Devon League on Saturday, writes Barry Knott.

Wellington are only three points behind the Cornish side who face a much sterner test - home to fifth placed Withycombe who have lost only once this season.

Torrington, on the other hand, have won only one of their eight games and have the same number of points as bottom side Wessex.

Former skipper and No8 Micky Norman is an injury doubt, having come off the field against Tavistock with a groin strain.

“Micky has been playing pretty good since he rejoined the club during the summer,” said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland. “However we have good strength in depth in the back row.”

Wellington have won their last five matches and put 59 points past Tavistock at the Athletic Ground over the weekend without reply.

Wellington were pumped up by Neville Pitman who led the spree with four tries, others coming from Regan Walker, George Hodgson, Corey Jenkinson and Alex Davey who also kicked seven conversions.

Wellington also have a vastly superior points difference than any other side in the division.
