WIVELISCOMBE have one foot in the door of Western Counties after beating St Bernadette’s 39-14 at home in Somerset Premier over the weekend.
It was their 19th victory in 21 league games and they now lead the only team who can deny them of the title, Burnham on Sea, by 15 point.
Wiveliscombe and Burnham have no matches this weekend while the Seasiders’ next game is on Friday, March 22, away to Weston super Mare 2nd XV. .
“We need six more points to make sure of finishing top, but one more victory may be enough,” said Wiveliscombe coach Peter Stone.
Wiveliscombe have virtually an injury-free squad although their Somerset Under 23 front and back rower Callum Lane has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.
“One of our strengths this season is that we have had a stronger squad - so we’ve had plenty of cover for injuries,” added Stone.
Wiveliscombe’s next games is away to Minehead Barbarians on Saturday, March 23.
