Wiveliscombe are considering not training twice a week as Covid-19 restrictions prevent competitive rugby until at least January.

At the moment the West Somerset club’s players train on Tuesday and Thursday but chairman and player Jake Sharland admits it is hard to keep players interested and motivated.

“January is a long way off,” said Sharland. “We’re considering having more strength and conditioning sessions. We’re also looking at playing some inter-club games.

“The important thing is the health and safety of the players. But at the same time players are missing actually playing competitive rugby. It is hard to put measures in place and finding the right balance.

“However, we now have practically a new committee and the break from rugby is allowing us the opportunity to look at all aspects of the club.”

Last season Wiveliscombe’s 1st XV were lying 12th in Western Counties West with still some work to do to avoid relegation. Their 2nds were near the top of Somerset Two South.
