FORMER professional rugby player Neil Clark is looking set to become the new head coach of Western Counties West club Wiveliscombe.

The West Somerset club have been without a coach since Peter and Brian Stone stood down at the end of last season.

Wivey’s director of rugby Jake Sharland has already agreed terms with Clark and was meeting him last night to ‘talk about the direction in which the club wants to go’,” said Sharland.

A hooker, Clark, 39, has played at the top level, including having had two spells with Exeter. He also played for Bristol, Bath and French club Oyonnax.

“We feel this will be a splendid appointment,” added Sharland, who has himself shaken off a hamstring injury and is hoping to play on a regular basis.

He missed a number of games through injury last season but still finished as the club’s top points scorer.

Wiveliscombe just managed to avoid relegation last season and will be hoping for better things under Clark who takes up his appointment immediately.
