THE deadline for entering Wellington Ex-Services Skittles League’s Cyril Hicks Singles Shield and the HarryDawson Pairs Cup is next Tuesday when there will be a team meeting at Wellington Conservative Club (7:30pm start).

Entry fees for these competitions are £5 per player for singles and £10 per pair for the Harry Dowson Cup.

Meanwhile, Marc Bright reports: Mowers were impressive winners in the Chris Bullock Championship last Thursday when they beat Home Guard IV by 74 pins.

J. Dodden scored 53 for the defending champions who recorded a very good score on the Football Club alley. P. Spencer hit 43 for Home Guard IV, Mowers 369, Home Guard IV 295.

Here 4 the Beer 326, Ex-Servicemen 376: Ex-Servicemen took the bragging rights in the Institute derby as they beat Here 4 the Beer by 50 pins to maintain their title chase. B. Price hit 48 for H4tB but the home side struggled to hit their usual stride during the match. The X-Men had M. Reeves top score with 53.

WRFC 368, Scuppas 371: Scuppas came out on top of a close game with a three-pin victory away to WRFC at the Conservative Club. Rugby club skippe J. Lane scored 57 to help his side to a decent score. J. Barker, one of Scuppas’ top players this season, scored an important 54 to help his side over the line.

Foresters 341, All Stars 336: Foresters and All Stars met at Nynehead Club (filling in for the White Horse Inn for Foresters home games) with only five pins separating the sides. A. Pitman scored 50 for Foresters with A. Chappell hitting 48 in the All Stars response, with the away side just falling short.

King Pins 365, Outsiders 381: Outsiders came out on top as they met King Pins on the upstairs alley of the Victoria Arms with 16 pins separating the teams. Sh. Powell scored 55 for the King Pins as they recorded a decent total. But, as many teams know, Outsiders are known to go big and it was the case again here. P. McCarten and M. Sharland both hit 57 to see Outsiders.

Odds and Ends 374, Moonrakers 335: R. Stanyard scored 56 for Odds and Ends to help put his side into a commanding position. The Rakers saw G. Harrison score 48 in reply, but the travelling team found it tough going and the game got away from them on the night.

Gerald Thorne Championship - Relyon 346, Holywell Lake 344: Relyon pulled off a two-pin victory over Holywell Lake at the Conservative Club, inflicting a first defeat to the Lakers in ten league games in the process. R. Higgs scored 54 for the Bedders with T. Dowson scoring 50 for the Lakers in a losing effort.

Bell Green 350, Reservists 381: Reservists picked up a big win away to Bell Green. M. Johnson, M. Wardell and T. White all hit 47 for the Greeners. G. Escott was the star player for Reservists with a stunning 71.

Rebels 335, Home Guard II 360: Home Guard II won by 25 pins as they took on Rebels at the Cottage Inn. B. Winter hit 51 pins for Rebels with I. Hewson hitting 51 of his own in the Home Guard II response.

Oaks 376, Cottage Pies 398: Cottage Pies followed up their win the previous week with another victory, this time away to Oaks at the Blue Ball. A. Bright scored 55 for Oaks to help the home team set a very good score. Cottage Pies went big in their reply, T. Mattravers being the pick of the players with 60.

Fireguard A 303, Hot Shots 301: It was a low scoring but close game at the Football Club, as hosts Fireguard A beat Hot Shots by two pins. Mike D hit an all-important 42 for Fireguard A to help them get over the line and take the win. M. Kerslake knocked 44 for Hot Shots on a tricky night for the away side.

Queens Legs 398, Report Centre A 365: Queens Legs recorded a solid 33-pin win at home to Report Centre A at the Conservative Club, with D. Mason’s 58 being the score of the match. M. Hobbs hit 56 in the Report Centre A reply.

Shooters 385. OBA 370: Shooters won by 15 against OBA as the sides met at the Victoria Arms. R. Cox hit a great 67 for Shooters to see them hit a very decent total. D. Clarke scored 58 for OBA.
