ONE Night in Bangkok have caused a skittles upset by lifting the Peter Bird Cup at the first attempt - in a competition which attracts the best of skittlers in the area during the summer.

Captained by Ryan Marke, some members of the side had never played the game before entering the competition - but they were brilliant in helping their team to win this big event which is held annually and is organised by Peter Bird and his wife Ann.

One Night in Bagnkok won the cup and took home £300 in prizemoney by beating another new team, Nick of Time, in the final at the football club on a recent Saturday night.

Only nine pins separated the sides in a keenly contested game with the two captains – Ryan Marke and John Barker – both leading by example, top scoring with 52 pins apiece.

Nick of Time had the consolation of collecting £150 in prizemoney as runners-up while the £50 prize for the highest first-match score in the opening rounds going to Outsiders.

The popular six-a-side tournament, which has been running at the football club since back in May, attracted 30 sides from across a wide area.

Before making the presentations, Peter Bird thanked all the players who had taken part in the event along with his wife Ann, for her help in organising the competition which was again a big success.

He went on to thank the football club for hosting and supporting the event, and the members of the club’s Wildcats girls’ football section for sticking up, and all the bar staff .

On behalf of the football club, Ken Bird replied by paying tribute to both Peter and Ann Bird for their hard work in making it another resounding success.
