PAUL Tweddle, who is Somerset County Cricket Club’s assistant and fielding coach, is heading to the World Cup after being called into the Scotland coaching staff ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on a short term secondment.

The 37 year old grew up in Bridport and represented Dorset in the Minor Counties as a wicket-keeper/ batter, and also played for Somerset Seconds.

He has been involved with the coaching team at Somerset for over 13 years and has taken responsibility for managing the 50 over one day cup side since 2021, leading them to the final and semi finals over the last two years.

Paul has also been involved with several ECB tours including fielding and wicket keeping coach during England T20 Tour to West Indies and fielding and wicket keeping coach for Individual Skills Lions Tour to Mumbai.

After accepting the role Paul, who has previously worked with England Lions, said: “Obviously, I was delighted to get the call from Cricket Scotland and it’s really pleasing to be going to the World Cup. I’ve put a lot of work into my coaching journey so far, so to be rewarded with an experience like this is special.

“In cricket, there’s no bigger place to be than at a World Cup. You can’t fail to learn and improve in an environment like that; It makes me feel very proud to have been given this opportunity.”

Somerset head coach Jason Kerr added: “Paul is an outstanding coach who is held in extremely high regard within the game. He has exceptional knowledge and a deep understanding of what it takes for players to perform at their absolute maximum.

“His innovative and meticulous approach has undoubtedly been a key factor in our recent successes, and he thoroughly deserves the opportunity to work on the biggest stage.”
