WELLINGTON Squash and Racketball Club’s first team enjoyed a good win on Monday evening and as a result finished top of Division Three in the Somerset Squash League.

They will now play in Division Two next autumn against a much stronger set of teams.

On Monday the team were away against Taunton side Wyvern 5 and the team scores were (Wellington names only) - Barry Bartram at 1 - 6-15,15-11,10-15, 15-8, 15-7. Ian Jolley at 2 - 15-7, 12-15, 5-10 retired injured. Andrew Carpenter at 3 - 15-11, 15-1, 4-15, 15-5. Mike Broom at 4 - 15-10, 15-8, 15-10. Tom hendy at 5 - 15-11, 14-16, 15-10, 15-13.The final score was Wyvern 5 7 Wellington 16.

Wellington’s second team have not been able to enjoy such success and have finished bottom of the third division, losing all eight of their their matches.

They have had a big problem in fielding teams because of injuries and players being unavailable.

Meanwhile the club, which is based at Coram’s Lane beside the rugby and bowls club, is always on the lookout for new members to strengthen their two teams in the county league.
