THE five-day summer sports camp held at Wellington Tennis Club was a huge success.
Twenty-eight children, aged five-13, received tennis coaching as well as cricket, tag rugby and hockey to keep energetic youngsters busy in the long holidays.
This year head coach Dan Sizer also added a netball net for shooting practice, putters to learn golf skills and a swimming pool for a splash around. With his links as tennis coach at Wellington School, Dan was able to use their pool to offer the kids swimming activities which helped everyone cool off in the heat.
Dan said: "The children worked unbelievably well in the heat and really improved in all sports. Thanks to all my tennis leaders who assisted me in running the activities. I couldn’t do it without them."
In Dan’s team of assistants were: Yasmin Cannell, Joe Wadham. Sam Ogilvie, Barney Crowcombe and Joel Griffiths. The boys are juniors who have attended tennis coaching for some years now and play in the club’s junior teams. Yasmin is about to start her Level 2 tennis coaching qualification.
If any children feel inspired after Andy Murray’s triumphant win at The Olympics, and wish to start coaching, then contact wellingtontennisclub25@ gmail.com for further information on their Tuesday 5pm session or Saturday morning sessions.
