WELLINGTON Petanque Club are again playing in the Devon League and are doing well in their bid to retain the championship, which they won last season after a two year absence.

After three rounds Team Wellington are leading the Exmoor Division and Team Monument are tying for third place, with three more rounds to be played.

Club members Jo Beer, Michael Wheatley, Mike Crew, Richard Brickles and Geoff Sully recently played for Devon in its annual match against Cornwall, played at the ISCA Arena, Exeter. Devon won the first round convincingly but Cornwall gradually reduced the margin and at the sixth and final round the match was in the balance. Devon held their nerve and won 38 – 34.

Pétanque is easy to pick up and can be played by anyone. The club holds open sessions on Wednesdays, from 6.30pm., and if you would like to give it a go you can find further information on their website: www.wellingtonpetanque.co.uk
