WELLINGTON’S two petanque teams, Team Wellington and Team Monument, have been playing all summer in the Devon League.
The last round saw them playing each other, with Team Wellington winning and topping the Exmoor Division and going through to the final play-offs.
They are the 2024 champions and are looking to repeat last year’s success as county league champions. A hard-fought sixth and final round against fellow club Team Monument sealed their place at the top of the Exmoor Division and they go forward to the play-offs at ISCA, Exeter on Sunday, October 5.
This competition is a true test of a club’s skills with each match consisting of a singles, two doubles and a triples game. League placement is decided on points difference as well as matches won.
Members of the two local teams were: Team Wellington - Richard Brickles, Eddie Gozna, Geoff Sully, Barry Ede, Team Monument - Ian Kingsley, Maggie Milton, Mike Crew, Jo Beer, Sheila Phillips, Marion Jones
