WELLINGTON Tennis Club is looking forward to a busy start to the season. Throughout the winter, matches have still been played with monthly junior matches at home as well as Trull, Wedmore and at Woodland tennis clubs over different age ranges.
The club’s winter league team have had a very successful season in the Mid-Devon League, finishing third behind Trull and Willand. They drew three and lost three matches but had good wins over Tiverton, Dulverton, Hemyock and Minehead.
Captain Carl Puzey said: "The matches were very competitive and by pairing James Cross with Liz Deem we were assured of winning four sets and Geoff Lee and I managed to win many sets as well."
This coming season, the club are fielding three teams in the Summer league with Carl continuing to captain the A team in Division Two, Janet Dobson captaining the B team in Division Four4 and Philippa Deem and Simon Cross will share the captaincy of C team.
Sue Rackley, chairman, stated: "I’ve just had a meeting with the other clubs and we are looking forward to a busy junior league schedule as well. We will field both an 17U and 14U team as well as host a Red/Orange Tournament."
A new Sunday afternoon mix-in has started -from 4 pm. Sue added: "It is aimed at attracting experienced players who can’t find the time during the week to play and we are offering Pay and Play for £5. Although it’s not for beginners we hope to offer an Improvers session on Tuesday evening soon."
