FORMER Somerset all rounder Peter Trego has been appointed the new batting coach for Western Storm, the women’s team which represents the South West England and Wales, one of the eight regional hubs in English domestic cricket.
The 42 year old played in almost 600 matches across all formats in a career that included playing for Somerset, Kent, Middlesex and Nottinghamshire in which he scored 19,000 runs.
Trego also enjoyed success as a medium pace bowler, taking almost 650 wickets with a first class career best of seven for 84.
The all rounder, who was a hugely popular player during his years with the Cidermen, said today: “Coaching at a professional level in the South West, a region that I am passionate about, is something that is really exciting.”
Trego, who hails from Weston super Mare, added: “Hopefully my experience as a player can help contribute to the progression of the group."
