WELLINGTON made a winning start to the season by beating Yeovil in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League this afternoon (Sat), winning by 49 runs.
The game was only made possible by the great work of club groundsman Des Campbell and others who managed to prepare a wicket despite all the bad weather during the week.
Wellington, put into bat, made 142 all out despite being 38-7 at one stage. Jack Beale came to the home side's rescue with a defiant 40, while vice-captain Luke Desave scored 37.
New Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Sandaken Pathirana snapped up 4-19 and skipper Aaron Campbell 3-21 as Yeovil were bowled out for 93 in 30 overs, despite a knock of 59 by Siby Chacko.
