WELLINGTON will be looking to consolidate their position at the top of the Somerset Division in the West of England Premier Cricket League when they play away to neighbours Taunton today (Sat).
Wellington have an 11-point lead over second-placed Chard with Taunton in fourth spot, 47 points adrift of the leaders.
Wellington made it seven straight victories - surely a record for them in the division - after beating North Petherton by 27 runs at the Playing Field last Saturday.
It was not one of their best displays of the season but Alex Sparks got them out of trouble with a knock of 64 which proved decisive.
Taunton, who have known better days, have won the Baker Cup 20-overs a side competition for a record number of times.
Wellington 2nd XI, who have had their last two matches cancelled because their opponents could not raise a side, are hoping to get back into action when they play at home to fifth-placed Lydford Sports in the fourth division of the Somerset League.
Wellington are up to third in the table and trail leaders Purnell by only seven points.
It is tight at the top of this division with only ten points separating the leading four teams.
Wellington 3rd XI, now second in Division Seven Red, are home to seventh-placed North Newton.
