TRAILBLAZERS lost their 100 per cent record in Wellington Bowling Club’s Afternoon League when they went down to Hopefuls.

Carol Horrill, Andrew Pearce, Steve Horrill and skip Darren Sparks' Hopefuls were 15 – 2 up at the halfway point. Worse was to come for Tony Gibson's Trailblazers who despite their best efforts were comfortably defeated 26 – 5.

Janet Lovell, Roger Murphy, Nick Channon and Steve Lovell's Eagles were recovering after their heavy defeat at the hands of Trailblazers but they set about the unfortunate Demon to show that they had not lost their flight feathers.

Demons are not an easy team to beat and John Stevens, Reg Deem, Ron Elston and Ernie Windsor did their very best but it was the Eagles who won18 shots to 10.

Badgers were a player short against Ninchers which meant they would lose 25% of their score. Despite this Liz Copping, Shirley Samuel and Peter White played well and by the midpoint were 11 – 5 up against Dorothy Parsons, Chris Mogg, Martyn Beed and Phil Harris' Ninchers.

When the bell went the scores were 14 – 10 to the Badgers but they had to take off 25% which meant that 3.5 had to be deducted.

So Badgers had 10.5 and the very unfortunate Ninchers just 10, leaving Badgers happy with a win by 0.5 of a shot!

Fourth placed Blackbirds had a real battle on their hands against fifth placed Yzeds.

Thelma Helps, Diana Dagg, June Anderson and skip Chris Thorne's Yzeds started well but at the midway point they were level on 7 shots each.

Monica Carter, David Harrison, Alan Every and skip Tony Weston's Blackbirds found themselves chasing the game in the second half.

Yzeds led by two with three to play but a terrific 5 shots in the twelfth end was enough for the Blackbirds to pinch it 13 – 11.
