WELLINGTON return to action after an enforced two-week break with a home game against newly-promoted Topsham in Regional Two South West tomorrow (Sat, 3p.m.).
Topsham can be pleased with their start to the season and are lying fifth in the table, three points above sixth-placed Wellington who have a game in hand.
Wellington's head coach Graham Dawe admitted this week: "I know little about them, only that they like to throw the ball about. They had a good season last winter and have a settled side."
Wellington, who lost away to third-placed Crediton 26-12 last time out, are hoping that Ash Harney, who has a slight knee injury, and George Hodgson and Alex Davey will all be available.
Wellington's only defeat at the Athletic Ground this season was against the current leaders Sidmouth.
Wellington 2nd XV, who beat Bridgwater & Albion 2nd XV 26-20 at home last weekend to move up to fifth in Counties Three Somerset South, are away to Tor who cancelled last weekend's match against their Wiveliscombe counterparts because they could not raise a side.
It was always the intention this season for Wellington to field a stronger 2nd XV to back up the senior side - and they are doing this with Andrew Bellamy's team being much more competitve.
Wiveliscombe's first team play away to second from bottom Bude in Counties One Western West tomorrow, chasing their first victory of the 2023-24 season.
This is very much a winable game for Wiveliscombe because the Cornish side have won only one of their five league games and are only four points better off than Wivey.
Wiveliscombe 2nd XV are home to Cheddar Valley who are lying second from bottom in Counties Three South Somerset. Wivey are seventh.
