WELLINGTON showed plenty of character and determination in fighting back to beat Chard 27-22 at home in Regional Two South West yesterday (Sat).
It was a must-win game for both sides and Chard appeared to be heading for a victory to avenge a home defeat by Wellington earlier this season.
Chard led 19-7 at the interval, after taking advantage of some sloppy play by Wellington.
But as the light faded, Wellington woke up and snapped up two late tries.
Wellington skipper Danny Lee, Josh Hancock and George Hodgson scored tries for Wellington with Robert Hooper kicking two penalties and three conversions.
Wiveliscombe sprang a surprise by beating fifth-placed St Ilves 29-12 to move off the bottom of Counties One Western West.
