WELLINGTON Pétanque Club hosted its Invitational Triples Competition, with eight teams from the Devon League competing in a friendly match for the Webbers Shield.

Teams played in two leagues with the top two from each competing for the shield. Third and fourth placed battled it out for the Plate, won by Ottery St Mary.

Both Wellington teams made it through to the play-offs with Monument, the only ladies team, finishing in third place.

In the final Wellington took on ISCA, Exeter, in an exciting game. Wellington had led throughout and looked to win until ISCA picked up their game to draw 11 – 11, then played two great shots to take the Shield.

Webbers donated prizes for winners and Caroline Swan presented the trophies with club president Rachel Fenwick.

Champions Wellington will soon be back in action playing in the finals of the Devon League and looking to retain their title.
