FIFTEEN-year-old Freya Bird is embarking on a charity walk from Bridgwater to Wellington, despite undergoing brain surgery.

Freya is taking on the challenge next month in memory of a school friend who sadly passed away recently, with all proceeds going to Charlton Farm, part of Children’s Hospice South West.

Her father, Mike, comes from Wellington where he runs the football club’s Ability Counts section.

Freya states on her fundraising page: “This challenge is especially meaningful to me. “Over the past two years, I have undergone two major brain operations, so taking on a 20-mile walk certainly won't be easy.

“However, I am determined to complete it and push myself for a cause that means so much to me.

“I chose this charity because I recently lost a very special close friend who was cared for at Charlton Farm. The love, support, and kindness they showed my friend and their family was truly incredible.

“Walking in their memory is my way of saying thank you while helping ensure other families continue to receive the same compassionate care during the most difficult times.”

It’s the furthest Freya has ever walked, or her father who is undertaking the challenge alongside her.

“We know it will be tough, but every step will be worth it if it helps make a difference for Charlton Farm and the families they support,” she added.
