SHOOTING star Abbey Ling, of Nynehead, has become a world title holder after winning a gold medal at a big event earlier this month.

Abbey competed in the ABT world championships on the weekend of 9/10th August at Fauxdegla shooting range in North Wales, and became ladies ABT world champion, scoring a 187 out of 200 targets, beating her close rival Leanne Palmer who went into the last round one target ahead of Abbey.

Abbey completed the event by scoring 24 out of 25 to claim the gold medal in ladies with a strong finish. Next event for Abbey is the British shooting final series which will be held in September when Abbey will be hoping for more success when she begins her bid to qualify for the next Olympics. The Olympic qualifications for LA 2028 start in 2026 at the World Championships in September.

Abbey was so disappointed at not qualifying for the last Olympics and has set her heart on being successful this time around.

Abbey was introduced to clay shooting through her grandfather Peter Burton who is now a retired gamekeeper.

She started shooting at the age of 15 and represented her county after being spotted by a representative, going onto GB trials and qualifying as the first junior lady to represent GB at this level.

Abbey runs a shooting range (Ling Shooting Limited) on the family farm at Nynehead near Wellington where she trains and offers lessons, corporate events, young shots days and have a go sessions for all ages and abilities for experiences or novice participants interested in clay shooting, archery or air rifle sports.

Abbey is married to Ed Ling who won a bronze medal for Great Britain at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and is a former world champion and world silver medalist. He has appeared in three Olympic Games.
