WELLINGTON Rugby Club Vixens are back in pre-season training at the Athletic Ground and looking forward to their second winter of league rugby against some top sides.

With good numbers attending training the Vixens will be looking to build on their fine inaugural season in NC3 South West Central. This season the Vixens will be in league and community cup action.

This year's league restructuring sees the Vixens as the only Somerset ladies team alongside all Devon clubs. Any ladies who would like to make new friends, learn new skills, have fun and be part of this amazing group of players should come along and give rugby a try. The Vixens train on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6.45 to 8.30pm at Wellington Rugby Club in Coram's Lane, Wellington, which is right by the local squash and rackets club and sports centre. There is plenty of room for parking.

The Vixens’ first preseason friendly is away to Bridgwater and Albion RFC ladies on Saturday 30th August. KO time TBA.

Last season was the Vixens' first playing in a league and they achieved fourth place in a division which consisted of some strong and well established teams.

They ended the season in some style by travelling over the Blackdown Hills to play near neighbours Chard Ladies - and came away with a stylish 50-5 victory.

The South Somerset side fielded a big experienced outfit but Vixens played some brilliant rugby, never looking back after Maxine Pontin put them ahead with a try after 15 minutes. It came after Vixens had absorbed early pressure by Chard. Vixens continued to look the better team and went in at half time 31-5 ahead. The Vixens continued to soak up pressure and to break out to increase their lead in the second half to gain a splendid win to end the season.
