CRIME dropped dramatically in the Wellington area last month, councillors were told at Monday’s monthly meeting.
There were 245 calls to the police from members of the public in Wellington in September - that’s 117 fewer than the 362 made during August.
September also saw a reduction in reports of anti-social behaviour across the town, with 42 incidents being reported - almost 50 per cent down on August. Once again the majority of reports of ASB that police received related to neighbour disputes, antisocial driving and parking. Youth ASB factored in less than a quarter of the reports.
The trend continued when it came to recorded crime for Wellington during September, with the number of reported and recorded crimes also falling by 42 on the previous month. September saw 68 crimes reported to police by members of the public compared to the 110 reported during the month of August.
