A LARGE listed holiday home near Wellington was consumed by fire over the weekend, taking 12 crews to put out the blaze.
Bindon Country House, the 19th century home that sleeps 26 with a pool and sauna, caught fire just after 11pm on Saturday night (July 12).
According to Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Services, control initially mobilised three fire engines and an aerial ladder platform from Wellington and Taunton, followed by two further engines from Taunton and Bampton.
Water carriers were then dispatched from Bridgwater.
Other services, from Colyton, Tiverton, Ivybridge, Clyst St George, Dulverton, Street, Chard and Martock, joined to assist throughout the night.
By 3.54am, Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Services reported that crews were making steady progress extinguishing the fire which had consumed a three-storey annex area of the holiday home.
By this time, part of the building had reportedly collapsed.
The incident had mostly been resolved by 8.55am, with crews remaining on site later in the morning to monitor “hot spots”.
