A WELLINGTON man who smashed a window in a woman’s home and assaulted a police officer has been ordered by magistrates to undergo alcohol and mental health treatment.
Simon Calby, aged 55, of Mantle Street, was sentenced on Tuesday (April 14) in Taunton Magistrates Court after admitting the offences at a hearing last month.
Calby had also pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusive words and behaviour which was likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.
Prosecuting solicitor Susan Cameron said the offences happened at an address in Wellington on February 17 this year.
Ms Cameron said the damaged window was valued at between £2,000 and £3,000, and during the incident Calby assaulted PC Sam McAllister as the officer was carrying out his duties.
Chairman of the bench Nick Allan said Calby’s guilty pleas were being taken into account when sentencing him.
Dealing with the damaged window offence, Mr Allan ordered Calby to take part in six months of alcohol and mental health treatment under the direction of the probation service
He also imposed a rehabilitation activity order where Calby had to complete up to 10 days of activities as required by a probation officer.
Calby was also told to pay compensation of £400, which he was allowed to pay at a rate of £20 a month.
He was further made subject to a restraining order banning him for 12 months from contacting the woman whose home he attacked and preventing him visiting two addresses in Wellington.
Calby was given a six-month community order for the attack on PC McAllister where he had to complete 120 hours of unpaid work in a maximum of 25 days over the next year.
Mr Allan said there would not be any separate punishment for the breach of the peace offence.
