BOTH Wellington’s fire engines were mobilised at the weekend to tackle a car which caught alight in a neighbouring village.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue’s (DSFR) call centre received emergency calls shortly before 9 pm on Sunday (April 12) about the incident, which happened in Luckham Bridge Road, Nynehead.

The two Wellington fire crews used two sets of breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to fight the blaze and the incident was declared closed just before 11 pm.

The vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire.

A DSFR spokesperson said the cause was believed to be ‘an accidental ignition’.

The Wellington firefighters remained on scene for some time after putting out the flames to help with management of traffic on the road.
