Visitors and locals at a special fundraising café in the village of Langford Budville will be enjoying food and drink in a good cause on Saturday (October 10), plus the chance to enjoy the work of 16 artists.
The Celebration of Art, being held at the Jubilee Hall from 11am – 4pm, will see all proceeds going to support the Wivey-Welly Bus User Group, which is trying to raise funds for a special timetable in the spring.
There will be a range of art work on show, including paintings, pottery, glass work and more, while the café will serve up treats from cream teas and savouries to barista coffees and sparkling wine.
The Wivey-Welly Bus User Group, which campaigns for rural buses, was delighted to see the Wiveliscombe to West Buckland route reinstated three times a week from last year, and printed a special timetable to show all buses and connections in the area including Milverton, Wiveliscombe, Langford Budville, Wellington and West Buckland.
Now they have run out of money and are hoping to raise £500 at tomorrow’s event, so they can print and distribute new timetables next spring, as well as continue with campaigning work to increase the reach of bus routes.
Café Plus, a community organisation in Langford Budville that organises a regular pop-up café and activities, and frequently partners with local organizations to host themed events, is hosting the special art plus café event tomorrow.
“We thought we would do this to raise money for the bus group,” said Jane Hancock, a member of the Café Plus team.
“Our volunteers donate their time and effort to raising money for different things, including a community fund that people can apply to. We hope visitors will come and support our local artists and our buses, and enjoy brunch, lunch or afternoon tea.
