THE first-ever Wellington Jumble Trail was underway on Sunday (May 24) with residents and visitors invited to make the most of the sunny weather to explore more than 30 locations around the town.

The town council ‘borrowed’ the trail idea from Watchet, where it has proven extremely popular.

The idea is instead of stallholders all attending one venue, they set out their wares in front of their homes with the council providing a map for people to find them.

One resident, Alex Conway, of Clifford Villas, used his backyard and put up signs in High Street to direct visitors to his range of Pokemon cards, clothing, and household items for sale.

Two of Mr Conway’s neighbours on Clifford Terrace were also taking part with children’s cloths and bric-a-brac on offer.

Mr Conway told the Wellington Weekly: “There has been a steady flow of people so far.

“It is a great idea and so simple, I hope they do it again next year, maybe even have another one at the end of the summer before the kids go back to school when people are clearing things out.”

Households which are taking part cover the whole of the town from the Cades estate to Tonedale, to Dobree Park, in Rockwell Green, and to the Burrough Way estate.

A council spokesperson said the event opened at 10 am and would continue until 4 pm, unless people sold out earlier.

They said: “We are very excited for this event and hope that people enjoy the day.

“The weather is beautiful but hot, so please make sure you are wearing adequate sun protection and have water with you while exploring the trail.”
