THE opening of the green at Wellington Bowling Club on Saturday was a great success, writes Martin Speakman.

Many more club members came along this year to have their photograph taken than the club had seen for many years. It all comes down to lots of new bowlers joining the club through the year.

Club Chairman Geoff Stamp gathered everyone together for a photograph and president Sylvia Lane bowled the very first bowl of the season on the green.

Sylvia welcomed everyone and introduced Wellington Mayor Janet Lloyd who, after a little advice, bowled an excellent wood which ended up quite close to the jack.

Everyone who came enjoyed the bowls games afterwards and the refreshments which followed. Members are looking forward to the friendly and league matches they can enjoy through the summer season.
