A wild buddleia bush which was growing from a town centre property has been removed just a day after the Wellington Weekly highlighted the issue.

The unkempt flora had become a head turning feature of Wellington's High Street for all the wrong reasons after it began to grow from a flat window above the empty Kaffee Klatsch.

The unsightly overgrowth provoked a social media storm from local residents, who expressed their sadness at the state of the prominent building.

Martin Cooke said the scene was "Not dissimilar to what I have witnessed in Communist countries"

John Bendall commented: "This is England in 2023, what a disgrace."

While Lesley Morton feared the plant could be a danger: "People say Teare's is scruffy but this is running it a close second. That growth could cause the window to fail or even the sill to break and fall."

It is believed the building's owners moved in to tackle the bothersome buddleia after seeing the reaction by residents. The Town Council had reported the eyesore to Somerset Council's enforcement team, but the weeds were removed before any legal process was started.

Town Cllr Zoe Barr, who had called for quick action to be taken, welcomed the clean up job. She said:

"I am really pleased that the property owners seem to have taken notice of our concerns and acted very quickly to remove the eyesore bush."
