A COACH with Wellington Football Club has been presented with a top award by Somerset FA.
Jason Fox, who runs the Disability section, has been named Disability Volunteer of the Year.
The award – held over from the 2019-20 season because of Covid – was presented by Nick Hawkins, Disability Football Development Officer for the county at a training session last week.
Nick said: “Jason is a passionate and enthusiastic individual who is a true role model for disability volunteers across the county.
“If there is any chance any of his teams can play football he normally takes it up, providing more and more opportunities for his players
“He is also a keen steward of the game undertaking his Level 2 coaching, Coaching Blind Footballers Course, Coaching Deaf Footballers Course and, of course, Coaching Disabled Footballers Course, along with many more.
Nick said Jason was also an avid fundraiser, securing support to ensure the Disability section had a more sustainable future.
“Bearing all of this in mind, Jason is a pillar of Disability football within the county and is truly deserving of this award.”
Wellington AFC chairman Mike Hall added: “Jason is a worthy winner of this award and it is great to see his exceptional work and commitment recognised by the FA.
“As a club, we are extremely grateful to Jason for his wonderful work with our Disability teams and, on behalf of everyone at Wellington AFC, I would like to thank Jason for all he has done, and continues to do, in this area.“
