POTHOLES were being filled in South Street, Wellington, on Wednesday (May 20) as a Somerset Council team moved in for a second time and closed the road for the day.
The road is one of dozens across the town where residents have complained for months about the deteriorating state of the carriageway.
In February, contractors repaired huge potholes in nearby Wellesley Park after residents highlighted the issue to the Wellington Weekly, but many of the holes have since reappeared.
A council spokesperson said the contractors would be on site in South Street for one day only in order to minimise disruption for traffic.
The spokesperson said pothole repairs were carried out in priority order, depending on urgency, rather than the teams moving from one road to another.

They said: “They are going to get round all the defects in Wellington over the coming weeks and months.
“We have been dealing with unprecedented demand following one of the wettest winters on record and the volume of defects we currently have been dealing with means we must prioritise the most dangerous potholes and those on major roads first.
“It is really important for people to report defects when they see them.
“Our online portal is quick and easy to use and images can be uploaded.
“This is the best way to alert us, it goes straight to the team who can assess and schedule a repair depending on the urgency.
“For very serious defects on major roads this could be two to 24 hours, while other repairs will be between seven and 28 days, or later if they are non-urgent.
“Please report road defects by visiting www.somerset.gov.uk and search ‘report a problem on the road’.”
The spokesperson said the same contractors recently completed resurfacing the A38 between Wellington and Taunton, which was a major piece of preventative work.
