THE first visit by Government education inspectors since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic saw Beech Grove Primary School, Wellington, achieve a rating of ‘good’.

The Ofsted inspection found the school performing well in every category, compared to its last visit in January, 2019, where inspectors said it ‘required improvement’.

The inspectors returned last month and took a ‘deep dive’ into the teaching of early reading, mathematics, history, and physical education, as well as loojking at other aspects of the curriculum.

Lead inspector Kelly Olive said: “There is a broad and ambitious curriculum for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

“There is a strong sense of community. Pupils are happy and safe.

“Most pupils are enthusiastic about their learning.

“Low-level disruption is rare and not tolerated by staff. Parents are confident in how staff support pupils to manage their behaviour.”

Beech Grove head teacher Claire Joyce (pictured) said she was delighted with the inspection outcome and thanked everybody for their support for the school.

Miss Joyce said: “This report reflects the huge amount of hard work that has gone in to moving the school forwards over the past few years. Teachers and support staff have shown incredible commitment and a united team effort to bring about significant improvement, despite the challenges of Covid.

“This positive outcome would not have been possible without the tremendous support we have had from our parents and carers, our governing board and, of course, the hard work from our children. This is an exciting time for our school. We are all looking forward to working together over the coming years to ensure Beech Grove continues on its journey of improvement.”
