WEEKEND jubilee celebrations began in Hemyock on Saturday afternoon with a sports festival held at the Longmead field.

On offer was the chance to take part in football, tennis and skate jam, and the many young people who took part were each presented with a jubilee sticker and medal.  Whilst the winner of the village jubilee garden competition was Emma Ward, who was presented with a watering can.

The glorious weather attracted a large number of  villagers who were able to meet up at the venue  with family and friends and enjoy the different catering on offer from burgers and pizzas to ice cream and, of course, tea and cakes.

Later in the afternoon and into the evening, live music was greatly enjoyed, provided by headliners Bar None based in the Blackdowns.

They were  supported by Scott, a singer/guitarist from Sidmouth, and a blues band who brought many to their feet to enjoy dancing.

An open air service of thanksgiving alongside the Parish Hall took place on Sunday morning attended by around 130, where most of the bunting used was made by children from the school.

Rev Canon Becky Totterdell led and Pastor Steve Williams read prayers.

Following this a small choir from the  primary school delighted with their singing of four songs.

Tables were set up and picnic lunches were enjoyed until rain brought the afternoon to a close.
