A HIGH Street cake shop and café is hosting evenings of art and entertainment this month.

Recently, the café A House of Cake teamed up with Alex Williams Illustration to deliver a collage, coffee and cake event. The workshop focused on creating fun, freestyle collages using images cut from old books, newspapers, magazines and other recycled materials.

An experienced art and primary school teacher based in Wellington, Alex delivers a range of art workshops for children and adults alongside creating her bright and bold prints, paintings and wall murals.

The monthly creative evening ‘Cake and Make!’ is a chance to get creative in a relaxed environment and Alex plans a different activity each month, providing all the materials needed.

The next session - running from 7pm to 9pm on July 17 - will be exploring the medium of shrink plastic to create earrings, magnets and more. It will run for two hours with the opportunity to learn new skills in a relaxed and friendly environment. Every ticket includes a drink and one of the hosts' cakes too.

Artists and teacher Alex said: "I'm so thrilled to be able to deliver these fun workshops with A House of Cake.

“Lesley and Chris are so supportive and community-minded and it's a great venue to hold something like this."

Established by Lesley Retallack, the award-winning café was opened on the King’s Coronation on May 6, 2023. With the help of her partner, Chris Penk, Lesley runs the cake shop and café in the day, and an event space by night.

From baking to creating, A House of Cake regularly put on activities for all ages including cake making and mocktail and pizza creation.

Tickets for the next Cake and Make! workshop can be booked through Alex's website www.alexwilliamsillustration.co.uk
