A COMMUNITY poppy project at Coldharbour Mill at Uffculme is to be the centrepiece of a exhibition this November.

The attraction near Cullompton invited members of the community and visitors to come in to make poppies, in a series of workshops leading up to Remembrance Sunday.

Locals were also offered the chance to take away a poppy-making kit or sit and stitch their poppy while visiting the venue in mid Devon which is one of the oldest woollen mills in the UK.

It has been preserved as a working wool museums producing its own yarn.

A spokesperson said: “Our Poppy Project has been a huge community effort, and we couldn’t be prouder.

“There’s been people knitting and crocheting from all over far and wide. The poppies are across the front of the mill; this will be an ongoing project to eventually fill the face of the mill building.

Those poppies, alongside the many hundreds more lovingly knitted and crocheted by members of the community using Coldharbour Mill yarn will form the centrepiece of the exhibition that the attraction intends to add to in the years to come.

Visitors, however, will miss the customary poppy cascade which adorns the chimney at the Mill attraction which despite best efforts, wasn’t possible to install this year.

The spokesperson added: “This stunning display will see vibrant red, purple and white poppies cascading across our iconic Mill building in a powerful tribute to those who served and sacrificed.

“This remarkable installation is a celebration of creativity, community spirit, and remembrance, offering a striking and moving sight for visitors of all ages.

“The display will be available to view throughout November during Mill opening hours and is included with any Mill admission ticket.”
