A MAN from Wiveliscombe has been sent for trial accused of raping a girl aged 14 years a week after his 15th birthday and later sexually assaulting her.
The offences were alleged to have happened five years ago, and the man is now 20 years old.
He appeared in Taunton Deane Magistrates Court on Thursday (November 5) charged with rape and assault by penetration with his fingers.
Prosecuting solicitor Jenna Morgan told the court the offences were said to have happened in Wiveliscombe in 2021, when the then-teenager was alleged to have committed the rape the week following his birthday, and then a month later carried out the sexual assault.
The man, who was represented by solicitor Gareth Needs, did not enter any pleas.
Chairman of the bench Philip Palmer committed the man for trial in Taunton Crown Court and released him on unconditional bail.
The magistrates were told a plea and trial preparation hearing would be held in the crown court on December 14.
