ACCLAIMED author and science communicator Sophie Pavelle will be welcomed to a ‘meet the author’ event in the Culm Valley next week.

Uffculme Library Friends will host the evening in the Garden Room of Uffculme Village Hall at 7.30 pm on Wednesday (September 24).

Sophie will be sharing insights into her journey as an author, how she began writing, her inspirations, her career, and how she found a publisher.

She will also talk about her latest book ‘To Have or To Hold: Nature’s Hidden Relationships’, and her previous award-winning work, including her debut publication ‘Forget Me Not: Finding the Forgotten Species of Climate-Change Britain’, the documentaries ‘Beavers Without Borders’ and ‘Recovering the Rainforest’, and the podcast ‘For What It’s Earth’.

Her debut book won the People’s Book Prize for non-fiction in 2023 and was longlisted for that year’s James Cropper Wainwright Prize for conservation writing.

The evening includes a short wine and cheese break with book sales, giving people an opportunity to have their copies signed by Sophie, followed by a question and answer session.

A spokesperson said: “This is a ‘must’ for nature and science lovers.

“This promises to be an inspiring and memorable night.

“Do not miss the chance to meet Sophie and explore the hidden connections that make our natural world so extraordinary.”

Sophie worked for conservation charity Beaver Trust for four years and sat on the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds England advisory committee.

She is also an ambassador for the Wildlife Trusts and is a trustee for UNESCO Exeter City of Literature.

Her Uffculme visit is part of a tour for her latest book with publisher Bloomsbury.

Tickets for the meet the author evening cost £6 and are available from Uffculme Library, Liznojan Bookshop, in Tiverton, or by calling Angie on 07743 184980 or Jim on 07949 249283.
