AN autumn series of talks organised by Wellington Local History and Museum Society starts next week when Katherine Swayne will tell members and guests all about the former Wellington Workhouse.
The talk takes place in Wellington Prep School Hall at 7.30 pm on Thursday, September 25.
Society spokesman Mike Menhenitt said: “This is going to be a popular event enabling the audience to see and hear about where the poor and destitute went in times past as a place of last resort.
“Here, they would be fed and had shelter but it was a harsh environment with long hours of hard work.”
Admission is £3 for members and £4 for guests.
Anybody who wants to join the society should visit its website or drop into the museum.
