AN open day is being held by Wellington’s University of the Third Age (u3A) on Monday (September 8) for people to see what the group is all about.

The event is being held in Wellington Rugby Club from 10.15 am to 12 noon and provides an opportunity for people to discover what u3A had to offer.

A spokesperson for u3A, which describes itself as ‘the youth club for seniors’, said people would be able to view the variety of interest groups being showcased ‘to see if something sparks your interest’ and talk to other members.

Interest groups are the ‘beating heart’ of u3a where people can meet with like-minded folk to share ideas and enjoy good company while learning from each other.

The spokesperson said u3A was for anybody who felt lonely or bored and wanted to stay active and feel connected.

Anybody who wanted to meet people and make new friends was encouraged to attend the open day, or anybody who was looking for ‘new areas of interest’ or to share their own.

The spokesperson said: “This is your chance to discover what Wellington U3A can offer.

“It is local, social, friendly, low-cost, and open to all.

“Wellington u3a members are discovering new things, staying active, and having fun in later life by coming together to socialise and learn, not for qualifications, but for its own reward, the sheer joy of discovery.

“Most of us have reached the age when full-time employment is in the past and so we now have time to enjoy life to the full.

“We are a self-help, self-funded charity run by the members for the members where everybody works together for the benefit of all.

“There are some new groups forming right now, so please let us know what you are looking for by getting in touch in an email.”
