A MAN and a woman appeared before magistrates on Wednesday (September 2) both accused of causing a child to suffer permanent neurological and physical disability.

Lithanuel Priestley, aged 35, and Tiffany Gibbings, aged 29, faced the same charge when they appeared in Exeter Magistrates Court.

The court heard the alleged offence was said to have happened eight years ago in Uffculme, during August 2018.

The magistrates were told the charge of causing or allowing a child or vulnerable adult to suffer serious physical harm was an indictable only offence, meaning the case would have to go to crown court.

Priestley, of The Well, Rockwell Green, Wellington, and Gibbings, of Watchet, were remanded on unconditional bail to appear before a crown court judge next month.
