WELLINGTON Town Council is looking for companies to undertake the first stages of development the Longforth Farm Allotment Site.
The Council has approved the allocation of £63,500 from the Longforth Farm Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding to support the delivery of the allotment site establishment works and associated infrastructure.
Perimeter fencing and access gates have been installed on the site with companies being asked to tender to complete the site clearance and preparation for the 35 plots that are planned.
A spokesperson for Wellington Town Council said: “To enable the project to progress, officers propose undertaking a competitive tender exercise to establish the cost of delivering the site under two alternative specifications.
“This approach will allow the Council to assess the financial implications of a basic allotment site compared with a more fully serviced facility before a final decision is made.”
The first option is to provide costs for clearing the site and preparing the allotment plots with internal access routes and the construction of a car parking, installation of timber posts and the relocation of the entrance gates as well as a fence and pedestrian gate between the car park and plots.
Plots are planned to be 125 metres squared with the exception of plots 21 to 25 which are 100 square metres and 28 to 37 closer to 62 square meters.
The council is asking for an addition list of options to be priced separately including cultivation of the plot for tenancy, surfacing of internal pathways, construction of bases for sheds, the supply and construction of sheds and connection to a water supply.
Councils members will evaluate tender submissions and any recommendations on awarding the work.
