READY, set, bake! A new ingredient is coming to Wellington Food and Drink Festival at the start of next month.

The team behind the event is searching for Wellington’s best home bakers. Are you a budding Mary Berry or maybe a frustrated Paul Hollywood? Now is the time to get your ‘pinny’ on and whip up a winning bake.

Festival director Bev Milner Simonds said: “We are searching for the top under 14 and adult home bakers.

“We want them to bake their favourite family recipes – be it Victoria sponge, a wonderful loaf of bread or Granny’s best fruit cake.

“Baking for pleasure is all very well but imagine the bragging rights when you are crowned Wellington’s cream of the crop?”

The organisers are particularly interested in rediscovering long-forgotten traditional recipes that were once unique to particular areas of Britain. Do you have a great family recipe that is particular to Wellington?

The competition is free to enter and the winners can take home not only a big trophy and certificate but also a top prize. The baking competition is supported by Thermapen cooking thermometers. The festival is on Saturday, September 3.

Entry forms can be downloaded from the festival website, www.wellingtonfoodtown.co.uk, or email organisers at [email protected]
