Fire fighters from Wellington have responded after a food truck overturned on the M5.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue confirmed that two fire engines seen travelling at speed down the High Street were en route to the incident.

A spokesperson said the engines were being deployed for safety reasons, because the truck was carrying fridges and gas bottles. It is understood there is no sign of fire at this time, or any indication that a person is trapped.

As of 4.45 pm on Monday the truck was blocking the lefthand lane of the M5 southbound near the Chelston Interchange.

It comes after a busy weekend for Wellington fire fighters who twice battled arson attacks in Wiveliscombe on Sunday, and joined in with efforts to control a ferocious blaze at Halberton.
