PROTESTERS campaigning to halt plans for a controversial garden centre at Milverton Road, Wellington are considering an appeal over a decision to approve the development.
An acrimonious meeting of Taunton Deane's planning committee approved the development by the narrowest of margins last night amid claims that the objections of local people had been ignored.
Local people formed a new campaign group - the Tone Action Group - in a bid to get the plans for a seven-acre site beyond the northern boundary of Wellington overturned.
Now, they have claimed objectors were not properly informed the application would be considered at last night's meeting.
Campaigner Ann McGrath, of The Bell & Birdtable, Runnington, told the WWN: "The meeting was a sham.
"It was very acrimonious. Few people were told the meeting was taking place. That meant a lot of objectors couldn't be there, and those who were didn't have enough time to prepare."
