The League of Friends of Wellington Hospital has paid for a cool box and table top freezer, costing in total nearly £400, for the child immunisation programme.
This means vaccines can be safely stored and transported between Wellington Medical Centre and the community hospital.
Syringe drivers ordered just after Easter are in short supply at the moment because of the coronavirus situation and it is unlikely any will be available until the end of summer.
This year’s hospital fete, scheduled for May 30, was cancelled and it has now been decided to officially cancel the cream tea afternoon planned for July 11.
The annual meeting, usually held in June, has been postponed to a later date.
A spokesperson for the league said: “While we are sad that the fundraising and socialising has to be put on hold, we are pleased that, thanks to the wonderful support we have received in the past, we have the funds to be able to help our local NHS teams in these exceptional times. They are doing a fantastic job and we urge everyone to show their support to the NHS by following the advice on social distancing, whenever possible to stay at home and above all stay safe.”
