A WELLINGTON woman who has been making face masks for charity throughout the Covid-19 pandemic has launched two new ranges.

Jeanette Bird has raised nearly £4,000 so far – most of which has gone to St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice.

She also donated £360 to the Royal British Legion by making poppy masks during Remembrance.

Now Jeanette, who retired three years ago after 45 years as a sewing machinist at Relyon in Wellington, is making special masks for Red Nose Day on March 19.

She is also making plain designs for secondary school pupils ahead of their return to the classroom this Monday.

Jeanette said: “Someone got in touch from a local school to say as no one could wear the usual red noses this year, perhaps I could make some masks with red noses on them.

“All the proceeds from these will go to Comic Relief.

“I also thought there might be a call for plain masks in different colours for those pupils who have to wear them at school – the money from these will go to the hospice.”

She added: “I’d like to thank everyone who has bought masks and also Tim Potter Butchers in Fore Street who sell them for me.”

Anyone wishing to buy masks – they are £2 each – can either visit Potters or phone Jeanette on 01823 661697.
