A SOMERSET farm shop’s bakery team has brought home a haul of awards from the recent Craft Bakers Association (CBA) Western Region Championships at the Bako Show in Devon.
Competing against bakeries from across the region, Rumwell Farm Shop, located between Taunton and Wellington, impressed the judges with the quality, skill and creativity of its entries, earning recognition across several categories.
Partner at the Farm Shop, Anne Mitchell, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the results from the Craft Bakers Association Western Region Championships at the Bako Show.
“To come away with five top three awards across such a wide range of categories is a real testament to the commitment, passion and hard work of our super-talented bakery team.
“The highlight for us was winning first place in the ‘innovative take on a Lardy Cake’ category.
“This perfectly represents what we love to do here – respecting traditional bakes while bringing creativity and modern ideas into everything we produce. We’re incredibly proud of the team and what they continue to achieve.”
The Farm Shop also scooped second place prizes for its white sourdough loaf, Eccles cakes and came third for its speciality doughnuts and brownies.
The prestigious championships, held as part of the Bako Show in Cullompton in March, forms part of the Craft Bakers Association’s Western Region competitions, which celebrate excellence, craftsmanship and innovation in artisan baking.
Casey Stoddart, CBA western region president‑elect, added: “Rumwell Farm Shop’s Bakery team should be incredibly proud of these results.
“The standard across the competition was extremely high and to come away with five awards, including a first place, is a real achievement.
“It reflects the skill, dedication and passion of the bakers, and the consistent quality of the products they produce day in, day out.
“Competitions like the CBA Western Region Championships exist to celebrate craft baking at its very best.”
