A LOCAL fund-raising group for Help for Heroes is actively looking for a new volunteer co-ordinator as well as additional volunteers.

The group currently consists of 10 regular supporters and has several dates for bucket collections arranged during the year including in Tesco this month, Bridgwater Armed Forces Day on June 27, Monkton Elm Garden Centre in July and August, and Wellington Independent Market on September 19.

The group needs more volunteers to help raise much needed funds in support of the Armed Forces community and their families.

Working as a close knit team, every pound the charity is able to raise goes toward helping veterans live well after service and supporting them with their physical and mental health as well as welfare and social needs.

A spokesperson for Help for Heroes said: “Volunteering is fun, rewarding and inspiring.

“You can make a massive difference to somebody’s life by giving up a few hours of your time every so often and helping to raise awareness of the plight of those suffering from a variety of different issues.

“No equipment is required, just your enthusiasm and commitment to help at planned events as and when you are able.”

The charity’s volunteer co-ordinator creates a rota of events and allocates volunteers so everybody in the team knows what they are doing, when, and with whom.

The spokesperson said: “Being a volunteer with Help for Heroes is underpinned by laid down policies and procedures meaning that safety measures, public liability insurance, and risk assessments are in place.

“It is a great way to give something back to your hard working military community when they most need your help and support.”
